JJ gave me a professional 35mm SLR Canon EOS5 for my 50th, so I could take decent pictures of my paintings. JJ and Robin have both encouraged me in creative pursuits, and who they are contributes greatly to who I am, as an artist. What actually happened with this Canon is that the camera itself became a passport, or 'magic carpet,' and it seemed that having the camera in hand helped me literally 'focus' on what I did feel passionate about, take risks and follow my instincts. I still don't really know how to use it, or make use of it's capabilities, but it has come with me on intuitive adventures. The photos become keepsakes of a beautiful journey.
These two were recently taken late in the day, from a high place in Hadley, Massachusetts. One looks to the west, past an old apple tree, the other north toward Mount Sugarloaf and the Pelham Hills.

Now, can someone please explain to me how to avoid burning out the sky?
The Connecticut River Valley has deep sandy loam that makes for fine farm land and trees that reach their full form and potential. This is an American Elm, Ulmus americana, rare now because of the Dutch elm disease.

My Chessie Jubal Lee. The AKC liked this picture and
used it in their June Issue. Are you tired of seeing pictures of this creature?

I'm painting again. That means I am also befriending and patronizing other artists, because it is a jungle out there!

Longtime friend Jim Murphy had an opening of his work up in Ashfield Massachusetts, at Elmer's Store on July 1, 2006. Since then, he has been selling his paintings like hotcakes! The cake he & Diane made for me, for earning the MLA degree.

Murphy's show was entitled 'HORSEPOWER'
Visit Jim Murphy's website. Nice work, Diane.
Artist Robin Everett-McGuirl, a.k.a. 'Ripper,' has been generating art work daily since he was a very small person. He has a penetrating, soulful style all his own. Robin is one of those few artists who creates as he breathes - constantly, from the fiber of his being.

I really enjoy the XM Radio - usually listening to the Reggae station - They play artist Gillie Richardson's Reggae Vision tunes now and again. Hear a Tune!

While traveling I met a fisherman
up in the air, out of his element.
Brad was full thought, and wrote in his notebook between naps and conversation. He's started a website of his writing called DeepSeaGangster.com Here's hoping he goes back to it when he's in port. Which brings me to mention that we deprive our fellow travelers of insight and enlightenment when we keep our gifts and passions to ourselves.
I acquired this small and powerful oil by Ken
Bushe, of Broughty Ferry, near Dundee, Scotland. It is a painting called
'Scots Pines,' of a remnant Caledonian forest in the Sidlaw Hills. His skys
are never burned out -

Ted Davies : "I did a series
of this type of style and photographed blue chip artists... "

"For
instance, Linda K. Alpern's portrait of Chuck Close, who is celebrated for his
own deadpan portraits, shows the artist's face partly submerged in water. Although
the image is quite straightforward, the effect is an almost eerie distortion,
as if Mr. Close is wearing a mask of his own features."
